Bank of America Announces New Museums on Us Partnership with Greenwood Rising

Bank of America Cardholders Can Receive Free General Admission Once a Month Beginning the Weekend of Aug. 5 and 6

TULSA, OK – Today, Bank of America announced that Greenwood Rising has joined its Museums on Us program. Starting August 5 and 6 and continuing during the first full weekend of each month, Bank of America cardholders may now access the Greenwood Rising history center for free. Greenwood Rising, which is dedicated to educating the public about the Tulsa Race Massacre, utilizes history, technology, and interactive design to open challenging conversations about the tragedy while educating visitors on Black history and the heritage of historically Black North Tulsa and the Greenwood District.

“Greenwood Rising tells the story of an integral moment in history that not only shaped our city, but also shows the challenges we face to overcome systemic prejudice within our nation,” said Bill Lissau, President of Bank of America Tulsa. “We have been a partner of Greenwood Rising from the start and are excited to continue to drive the impact in a new way. As Greenwood Rising joins the Museums on Us family, our hope is that more people learn and experience what happened to Black Wall Street and leave motivated with a greater purpose.”

Bank of America believes the arts have a unique ability to connect people and communities and help local economies thrive. Providing access to the arts is one example of how the bank strengthens the local communities it serves, creates greater cultural understanding, and expands accessibility to the arts.

"As Greenwood Rising enters its second full year of operations on August 4, we are very excited to continue our partnership with Bank of America,” said Dr. Raymond Doswell, Executive Director of Greenwood Rising. “They have been with the History Center since its inception, and I have known Bank of America to be advocates for the arts and history. In my previous work at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Bank of America was a tremendous sponsor and supported our work through the Museums on Us program there. Greenwood Rising is excited to join other outstanding institutions across Oklahoma and the U.S. offering access to history. It's inspiring to have such a great partner as Bank of America."

Greenwood Rising is joining several Oklahoma institutions that are part of the Museums on Us program, including First Americans Museum in Oklahoma City, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum In Oklahoma City, Oklahoma City Museum of Art, the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum, Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa and the Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Museum in Bartlesville. Bank of America card holders can access any Museums on Us locations for free and can use the location finder tool to search for participating cultural attractions. A Bank of America, Merrill or Bank of America Private Bank credit or debit cardholder can simply present their card along with a photo ID to gain free general admission to any participating institution during the first full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) of each month.

This announcement follows the recent news of Bank of America’s foundational grant to fund the National Juneteenth Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. Targeting a June 2025 opening, the museum will spread awareness and preservation of the Juneteenth history. Bank of America has also supported the Smithsonian’s “Our Shared Future: Reckoning with Our Racial Past” initiative and is a founding member of the National Museum of African American History Culture. The support of these institutions demonstrates Bank of America’s commitment to advancing racial equity and education through cultural institutions.

About Greenwood Rising

Greenwood Rising opened in 2021, one hundred years after the worst racial violence in U.S. history—the Tulsa Race Massacre. The legacy project of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission, Greenwood Rising started from a vision to build a stronger and more just Tulsa, but quickly expanded in scope to educate the world about the events of 1921, the legacy of Black Wall Street and the continued hope of racial reconciliation in Oklahoma, the United States and around the world.
